2011 Barlow Student Composition Prize given to Curtis Smith
The BYU School of Music Composition Division is pleased to announce that Curtis Smith is the recipient of the 2011 Barlow Student Composition Prize, an annual award given to an outstanding composition student at BYU. The award comes with a cash prize, and a commission to write a new work for one of BYU's premiere large ensembles. Curtis will be writing a new piece for the BYU Chamber Orchestra that will be premiered on Tuesday, March 27, at 7:30 PM in the de Jong Concert Hall. Curtis is currently pursuing a MM in music composition in the BYU School of Music, and is also active as a guitarist and instructor.
