David Rakowski (Brandeis University) October 15-16 2012

Monday, October 15 - Tuesday, October 16

Composer David Rakowski, The Walter W. Namburn Professor of Composition at Brandeis University, past Barlow Board of Advisors member, and a former Barlow Prize Winner, presented a Barlow Lecture and held workshops for composition students on campus at Brigham Young University, October 15-16. His Barlow Lecture was held on October 16th in the Harris Fine Arts Center and included the presentation of several of his works that illustrate his conviction that composers, even established ones, should accept difficult challenges. The BYU Group for New Music presented 4 of his 100 piano etudes and his piano trio, Hyperbule, that same night in the Madsen Recital Hall. Dr. Rakowski’s visit was supported by the Barlow Endowment Education Grant.
