The Utah Chamber Artists featured the premiere of a 2011 General Commission by Tarik O’Regan in their Spring Concert at the University of Utah in Libby Gardner Hall on April 30, 2012. The piece, for SATB chorus and soprano solo and entitled After Rain (Petrichor), was conducted by Dr. Barlow Bradford, director of the Utah Chamber Artists. Mr. O’Regan presented a lecture in the Libby Gardner Hall earlier that day.
UCA soprano Liz Hodson was quoted in The Salt Lake Tribune as saying the piece “creates the aural experience of rain through music that shimmers and bursts with the texture of water.” The piece was set to poems by Edward Thomas. Hodsen continued in the article to say that O’Regan’s piece “takes the words of the poem, which are wonderful, and paints them so well.
